Tennessee Tech University Ashraf Islam Engineering Building

The Ashraf Islam Engineering Building at Tennessee Tech University serves as the academic heart of the College of Engineering, designed as a state-of-the-art hub for teaching, recruiting, and collaboration across all engineering disciplines. At 102,000 square feet, it houses extensive laboratories, flexible classrooms, and active learning spaces developed with faculty input to meet both current and future needs, while its exposed systems and interactive features transform the facility into a living laboratory. All engineering students begin their academic journey here, benefiting from formal and informal collaboration areas, including a central three-story atrium that fosters connection and engagement. Architecturally, the building blends TTU’s Georgian campus vernacular with contemporary materials and technologies—such as electrochromic glass, composite panels, and daylight-responsive lighting—projecting an innovative identity that underscores the College’s role as a forward-looking leader in engineering education.
