Domestic Violence Intervention Center

Commissioned by a non-profit serving women and children in crisis, this new emergency shelter provides lodging, counseling, legal aid, and children’s programs within a campus-like setting designed to feel like home. Drawing from rural vernacular forms, the architecture employs gabled roofs, long porches, and a raised central courtyard to create a peaceful, protected atmosphere. A central living room and administrative core anchor the plan, while glass-lined corridors connect to bedroom suites and living pavilions tailored for both individuals and families. Durable yet warm materials—concrete masonry, fiber cement siding, and generous glazing—reinforce the shelter’s dual mission of safety and healing, offering residents a secure, dignified place of refuge.
